HY Hunter 22 Revolver Pistol Grips
HY Hunter 22 Revolver Pistol Grips . This is a smooth grip set for the “Hy Hunter” Western Six-Shooter which was made by the German gunmaker Herbert Schmidt and imported under the Hy Hunter trade name to the USA. It is a “notch top” grip, similar to the Frontier Scout or Heritage Arms single action grips. Hy Hunter also imported guns made by Sauer & Sohn, Germany, and roll stamped the Hy Hunter name on them. His company distributed the American-made “Great Western” brand for some time as well, but did not private label those guns.
In some cases the “Bounty Hunter” grips, which are similar, will work on certain guns, but be sure to compare the dimensions provided with your gun, or better . Make a pencil tracing around your existing grips on 3 x 5 index cards and mail them to me, with the screw hole marked. Then I can cut them out, hold them to the back of the grips like a gauge, and make sure what you sent will fit inside the edges of this grip. That way you have a little extra to sand to perfect fit. Last Friday my best friend and golfing buddy showed me a revolver that his elderly widow neighbor gave him for his birthday. She is in her late 90’s and my buddy Mike lives nearby and mows her yard and his wife takes her dinners and checks-in on her.
The revolver needed a good cleaning but appeared mechanically OK. It had belonged to her late husband. It was a Hy Hunter Western Style Single action 22lr revolver. Never heard of them before. Had import marks and Made in West Germany stamped on it. I looked it up on line and there was some information but not a lot. Imported by an outfit in Hollywood California during the 1950’s & Early 1960’s and sold mostly through mail order. One on line source said they were made by Rhom. HY Hunter 22 Revolver Pistol Grips
